Bilateral cooperation prospects in tourism, the expansion of joint efforts within international organizations, and the exchange of critical information on tourism education were discussed during a meeting in Belgrade between Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, Fuad Naghiyev, and Serbian Minister of Tourism and Youth, Husein Memic.

During the meeting, Fuad Naghiyev informed Husein Memic that, for the first time, tourism has been integrated into the thematic program of COP29, the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference, which Azerbaijan will host in November.

He also invited his Serbian counterpart to participate in the "1st High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Enhanced Climate Action in the Tourism Sector," which will take place as part of the COP29 "Tourism Day" program.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the heads of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board and Serbia’s National Tourism Organization, an Agreement on Tourism Cooperation was signed between the two entities.

Additionally, Fuad Naghiyev met with Nikola Selaković, Serbia's Minister of Culture and Co-Chair of the Azerbaijan-Serbia Intergovernmental Commission.

During the discussion, both sides emphasized the strong interconnection between culture and tourism and agreed that expanding cooperation in these areas would positively impact mutual tourist flows. The meeting was also attended by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Serbia, Kamil Khasiyev.

As part of the official visit, the Azerbaijani delegation paid tribute to National Leader Heydar Aliyev by laying flowers at his monument in Belgrade’s Tašmajdan Park.

They also visited the memorial dedicated to children who lost their lives during the 1999 bombing of Belgrade and the statue of Serbia’s renowned writer Milorad Pavić.
